Grêmio Atlético Sampaio
Founded in 1965 in Boa Vista, Grêmio Atlético Sampaio, known by the acronym GAS, is one of the most traditional clubs in Roraima football, named in honor of General Antônio de Sampaio, patron of the Infantry of the Brazilian Army.
History
Grêmio Atlético Sampaio was founded on June 11, 1965, in the Roraima capital, Boa Vista. Over the decades, GAS established itself as one of the forces in the Roraima State Championship, regularly competing for the state title against rivals such as Atlético Roraima and Monte Roraima. Between 2018 and 2022, the club came to represent the municipality of Caracaraí in national competitions, before returning to its original headquarters in Boa Vista. The GAS emblem features a lion prominently, which gave rise to the nickname of Golden Lion, adopted by supporters. The club plays its matches at Flamarion Vasconcelos Stadium, also called Canarinho, with a capacity of approximately 3,000 spectators. In 2026, GAS remains among the representatives of Roraima in the Serie D of the Brazilian Championship, the main national showcase for clubs in the state.
