Portuguesa de Desportos
The Associacao Portuguesa de Desportos, known as Lusa, is a traditional club from São Paulo founded by Portuguese immigrants.
History
Founded in 1920 by members of the Portuguese colony in São Paulo, Portuguesa became one of the most traditional clubs in São Paulo football, competing in the elite of the Campeonato Paulista for decades. The club had its peak in the 1970s and 1990s, when it competed in state finals and had good campaigns in the Campeonato Brasileiro, revealing important players for Brazilian football. In the 2000s and 2010s the club faced financial and administrative difficulties, alternating between divisions of São Paulo and Brazilian football, but maintains a strong historical connection with the Lusitanian colony in Brazil.
