Grêmio Esportivo Glória

Grêmio Esportivo Glória is a football club from Vacaria, in the north of Rio Grande do Sul, known by the nickname Lion of the Mountain. Despite its modest size, it is one of the main sports traditions in the Campos de Cima da Serra region, with appearances in national competitions.

History

Founded on November 15, 1956 by a group of young sports enthusiasts in Vacaria, the club adopted blue and black colors inspired by Grêmio Foot-Ball Porto Alegrense, defined according to the fabrics available in local shops at the time. Throughout the following decades, Glória established itself as the main force in Vacaria's football, competing in Federação Gaúcha de Futebol competitions and winning the Second Division title of the Campeonato Gaúcho in 1988, which granted it access to the state elite. The club also had appearances in the national scene, having received an invitation to compete in the Special Division of the Campeonato Brasileiro and, after 16 years away from national competitions, returned to compete in the Série C of the Brasileiro, in which it finished in 20th place. In 2021, Glória won the Copa FGF, one of the most important trophies in its recent history. Currently, the club competes in the Campeonato Gaúcho Série A2, keeping alive the football tradition in the Campos de Cima da Serra.
