Gremio Foot-Ball Porto Alegrense
Founded by immigrants in Porto Alegre, Gremio is one of the most traditional clubs in Brazilian football, with prominence in international achievements.
History
Gremio was founded on September 15, 1903 by a group of young people, including German immigrants, in the city of Porto Alegre. The club quickly stood out in the Gaucho scene, becoming one of the biggest rivals of Internacional in the Gre-Nal classic. In the 1980s and 1990s, Gremio experienced its international peak, winning the Copa Libertadores and the Intercontinental Cup in 1983, a feat repeated in 1995 in the Libertadores. For decades, the club played its matches at the Monumental Olympic Stadium, until the inauguration of Gremio Arena in 2012, one of the most modern stadiums in the country. In 2017, Gremio won its third Copa Libertadores, reaffirming its tradition in continental competitions.
