Grêmio Recreativo e Esportivo

Football club from Espigão d'Oeste, in Rondônia, founded in 1984. It was runner-up of the Rondoniense Championship in 1992 and is currently inactive.

History

Grêmio Recreativo e Esportivo was founded on May 1st, 1984 in the city of Espigão d'Oeste, in the interior of Rondônia, one of the youngest states of the Brazilian federation in terms of football organization. The club's main sporting achievement occurred in 1992, when it finished in second place in the Rondoniense Championship, being surpassed by Ji-Paraná Esporte Clube in the state title decision. The club again featured among the highlights of Rondonian football in 2005, when it finished second in the second division of the Rondoniense Championship, this time losing the competition to Ulbra Ji-Paraná. Playing its matches at Luizinho Turatti Municipal Stadium, with a capacity of around 2,000 fans, Grêmio Recreativo e Esportivo became known by the nickname "Rondônia's Baby". Currently, the club is inactive, but remains recorded in the history of the state's football as one of the traditional representatives of the Rondonian interior.
