History

Grêmio Esportivo Sãocarlense was founded in 1976 in the city of São Carlos, in the interior of São Paulo State, with the objective of giving the city a representative in professional football. The club adopted blue and white colors and played its home matches at Professor Luís Augusto de Oliveira Stadium, known as Luisão. In the 1980s, the club experienced its period of greatest prominence, climbing divisions in the São Paulo State Championship and competing in the first state division in 1987 and 1988, facing giants such as Corinthians, Palmeiras, Santos and São Paulo. Sãocarlense also competed in the Brazilian Championship Series B and Series C in some editions, bringing the name of São Carlos to the national scene. Among its revealed players or those who passed through the club are athletes who later played for major clubs in the state. Faced with financial difficulties from the 1990s onwards, the club oscillated between the lower divisions of São Paulo football and even licensed itself from professional competitions, maintaining itself as a sports symbol of the city of São Carlos.
