Guangzhou FC
Guangzhou FC, formerly known as Guangzhou Evergrande, was the most dominant club in Chinese football in the modern era, with a historic series of consecutive titles. Founded in 1954, the club was bought by the Evergrande real estate group in 2010 and transformed into an Asian powerhouse with massive investments. The partnership with Italian coach Marcello Lippi and with the Spanish training company Real Madrid CF elevated the club to a level never before seen in China.
History
Between 2011 and 2019, Guangzhou FC won eight consecutive titles of the Chinese Super League, an impressive record in Asian football. The club won the AFC Champions League in 2013 and 2015, becoming the first and only Chinese team to win the continental title twice. Players such as Marcello Lippi, Luiz Felipe Scolari and stars such as Robinho, Paulinho and Goulart passed through the club during its golden period. The financial difficulties of the Evergrande group affected the club in recent years, but its legacy remains unique in Asian football.
