Hamburger SV
Hamburger SV is one of Germany's most traditional clubs and the only one that had never been relegated from the Bundesliga since its creation in 1963 — until 2018, when it ended a historic era. The club was European champion in 1983 and has one of the greatest stories in German football. The fall to the second division was a shock to German football, but the club fights to return to the elite.
History
Founded in 1887, Hamburger SV is one of Germany's oldest clubs. The club won its greatest title in 1983, when it defeated Juventus in the European Cup final in Athens. With six national titles and three UEFA Cups, Hamburg was a European powerhouse in the 1970s and 1980s. In 2018, the club was relegated for the first time in 55 years, ending the only record of uninterrupted presence in the Bundesliga.
