Hannover 96

Founded in 1896 in the capital of Lower Saxony, Hannover 96 is one of Germany's most traditional clubs. Two-time German Champion (1938 and 1954) and winner of the German Cup in 1992, it is a sports symbol of the north of the country.

History

Founded on April 12, 1896, Hannover 96 experienced its greatest moments of glory in the 1930s and 1950s. The 1954 German Championship title was won in the same historic year that the German National Team won the World Cup in Switzerland, consolidating that period as the club's golden age. After the creation of the Bundesliga in 1963, the club alternated between the top flight and lower divisions, unable to repeat the achievements of previous decades. A return to the elite in the 2000s brought new momentum, culminating in the quarter-final campaign of the UEFA Europa League in 2011-12. The 1992 German Cup, won against Borussia Mönchengladbach, was the club's greatest modern title. The HDI-Arena, with a capacity of over 49,000 fans, has been Hannover 96's home since 2005 and is one of the largest stadiums in northern Germany.
