Hertha BSC

Hertha BSC

Hertha BSC is Berlin's most traditional club and one of the oldest in Germany, with a history dating back to the 19th century. Representative of the German capital in high-level football, the club has already competed in the UEFA Champions League and has accumulated two national titles.

History

Founded on July 25, 1892 on the banks of Lake Tegel in Berlin, Hertha BSC has one of the richest histories in German football. The club won the national titles in 1930 and 1931, when it was one of the dominant forces in German football. With the division of Germany after World War II, Hertha lived through complicated decades, as West Berlin was geographically isolated from the rest of the country, which made travel difficult and hindered participation in competitions. With German reunification in 1990, the club resurfaced and returned to the top of the Bundesliga. At the turn of the millennium, Hertha reached the UEFA Champions League, achieving the quarter-finals in the 1999-2000 season. In the following years, the club oscillated between the Bundesliga and 2. Bundesliga, but remained as a football symbol of Germany's largest city.
