History

The Hrvatski nogometni klub Rijeka was founded in 1946 in the city of Rijeka, on the Croatian coast of the Adriatic. During the Yugoslav era, the club reached cup finals and established itself in the first division. After Croatia's independence, Rijeka began competing in the Prva HNL and became one of the country's most consistent teams, behind Dinamo Zagreb and Hajduk Split. The biggest recent achievement was the 2016-17 national title, the first in the club's history, which broke Dinamo Zagreb's long winning streak. The club also won the Croatian Cup in 2005-06, 2013-14, and 2018-19, as well as the Super Cup in 2014 and 2017. Since 2015, the team has played its home matches at Stadion Rujevica, which replaced the traditional Kantrida.
