Hull City AFC
Founded in 1904, Hull City AFC is the main football club in the port city of Kingston upon Hull, in the northeast of England. It plays its home matches at MKM Stadium and is recognized for its iconic black and gold-yellow striped uniform, which gave rise to the nickname 'The Tigers'.
History
The club was founded in 1904 and admitted to the Football League the following year, adopting from the start the black and yellow colors that would become its trademark. In the following decades, Hull City moved between the lower divisions of English football, winning the Third Division North title in 1933 and 1949, and the Third Division in 1966, without ever competing in the elite of national football in the twentieth century. The major landmark in the club's recent history came in 2008, when Hull City reached the Premier League for the first time after winning the Championship playoff. Competing in the elite brought international visibility to the club, although with ups and downs between the first and second divisions in the following years. The sporting peak of Hull City occurred in the 2013-14 season, when the team achieved its best historical finish in the Premier League and reached, for the first time in its history, an FA Cup final, being defeated 3-2 by Arsenal at Wembley after going 2-0 up on the scoreline. Since then, the club continues to compete mainly in the Championship, maintaining MKM Stadium as its home and a loyal fanbase in the Humberside region.
