IFK Göteborg is the only Scandinavian club to win the UEFA Cup twice, a remarkable feat that marked European football in the 1980s. Founded in 1904 in the city of Gothenburg, the club is one of Sweden's most traditional and popular. Gamla Ullevi is the club's historic stadium, located in the heart of Gothenburg.

History

IFK Göteborg won the UEFA Cup in 1982 and 1987, becoming the only Scandinavian club to win the competition and doing so consecutively. The club dominated Swedish football in the 1980s and 1990s, winning multiple Allsvenskan titles. Coach Sven-Göran Eriksson led the club to its first European triumph before pursuing an international career. Göteborg revealed important players such as Thomas Ravelli, Henrik Larsson, and Glenn Hysén.
