Deportivo Independiente Medellín, known as DIM or El Poderoso, is one of Colombia's most important clubs, founded in 1913 in Medellín. Multiple-time Colombian League champion, it is one of the pillars of Antioquia football and a national reference.

History

Founded on March 12, 1913, Deportivo Independiente Medellín is the oldest football club in Medellín still in operation. Born from working-class roots, DIM quickly became a symbol of pride for the city and the Antioquia department. The club won multiple Colombian League titles throughout its history, establishing itself as one of the powers of national football. Historic rivals of Atlético Nacional, the duels between the two clubs are known as the Clásico Paisa, one of the most passionate rivalries in South American football. The Estadio Atanasio Girardot, shared with Nacional, is the stage for DIM's major matches in Medellín. With a capacity of over 45,000 spectators, the stadium hosted historic matches of the club in the Copa Libertadores de América. In the Libertadores, Independiente Medellín reached the quarterfinals in different editions, demonstrating continental competitiveness. The club also developed great players of Colombian football, such as Víctor Aristizábal and Iván René Valenciano, who shone on the international stage.
