History
Associação Atlética Internacional was founded on October 5, 1913, in Limeira, from the merger of two amateur clubs in the city. The 1986 team became the most important in the club's history by winning the São Paulo State Championship that year. With coach Pepe in charge, Inter had Kita as a major offensive reference. The striker finished the championship as the top scorer, with 23 goals. The final was against Palmeiras, who had gone ten years without a title. After a 0-0 draw in the first leg, Inter won 2-1 at Morumbi, with goals from Kita and Tato. The conquest marked the first time an interior club became São Paulo champion. The defeat increased the crisis at Palmeiras and turned Inter's campaign into one of the biggest surprises in the state championship's history.
