History

Sport Club Internacional was founded on April 4, 1909, in Porto Alegre. In the 1970s, the club experienced the most successful period in its history up to that point, with Brazilian Championship titles in 1975 and 1976. In 1979, under the command of coach Ênio Andrade, Internacional won its third Brazilian Championship. The campaign was marked by being unbeaten: the team won the championship without losing a single match, a rare achievement in the competition's history. In the final, Colorado defeated Vasco da Gama. The midfielder Falcão, a club legend, was one of the main figures in the squad and left Internacional to join Roma in 1980. The 1979 team is remembered as one of the greatest squads in Gaucho football and reinforced Beira-Rio's image as one of the most difficult stadiums for national opponents.
