Internacional 1992
The Internacional of 1992 was the team that won the first Copa do Brasil in the club's history, overcoming Fluminense in the final. The team was led by coach Antônio Lopes.
History
Sport Club Internacional was founded on April 4, 1909, in Porto Alegre, and built a popular identity that established it as one of the great clubs in Rio Grande do Sul and Brazil. Its stadium, the Beira-Rio, was inaugurated in 1969. In 1992, the Copa do Brasil was in its fourth edition. Under the command of coach Antônio Lopes, Inter advanced through the knockout stages to the final, facing Fluminense. The Colorado overcame the carioca opponent and won the national cup title, the first for the club in this competition. To this day, 1992 remains as Internacional's only Copa do Brasil title. The achievement was added to the Brazilian championships of 1975, 1976 and 1979 and reinforced the winning tradition of the gaucho club on the national stage.
