History

Founded on June 4, 2000, Ipatinga FC arose from the desire to restore high-level football in the city of Ipatinga, an important steel center in the Steel Valley of Minas Gerais. In a few years, the club built a competitive structure in the lower divisions and achieved access to the elite of Brazilian football. The 2007 season marked the peak of the club, when Ipatinga participated for the first time in Série A of the Brazilian Championship. The historic campaign projected the team nationally and revealed talents who went on to other clubs of greater prominence in the country. After also competing in Série A in 2010, the club faced financial difficulties that compromised its competitive trajectory.
