Associação Desportiva Jequié

Founded in 1969, Associação Desportiva Jequié is the main football club in the interior of Bahia, based in the city of Jequié, known as 'Sun City'. It is affectionately called 'Jequéqué' by its supporters.

History

Associação Desportiva Jequié (ADJ) was founded on November 20, 1969, professionalizing athletes who already stood out in the amateur municipal selection that was champion of the region. In its first season, the club surprised by finishing in a respectable fifth place among 16 participants in the Bahian Championship. During the 1970s, ADJ established itself as a regular participant in the first division of Bahian football, a period in which it experienced its phase of greatest state relevance, before being relegated in 1980. After a long period of inactivity, the club resumed activities in 1991 and, the following year, was crowned champion of the second division of the Bahian Championship, regaining access to the state elite. The club's official mascot is the 'Sun', in reference to Jequié's nickname, known for its high temperatures throughout the year. The club plays its home matches at Waldomiro Borges Stadium, popularly called Waldomirão, and remains one of the main forces in the interior of Bahia in competitions organized by the Bahian Football Federation.
