Joinville 2014

Joinville in 2014 was the team that won the Brazilian Championship Serie B and took the Santa Catarina club back to the national elite. The campaign was commanded by coach Hemerson Maria and ended with the most important national title in JEC's history.

History

Joinville Esporte Clube was born on January 29, 1976, from the merger between América and Caxias, the two traditional clubs of the city. In its early years, the new club dominated Santa Catarina's football and won eight consecutive state titles, from 1978 to 1985. After years away from the main national divisions, Joinville began to rebuild with the Serie C title in 2011. In Serie B, the club assembled a competitive team and, in 2014, under coach Hemerson Maria's command, finished the competition in first place. The 2014 Serie B title guaranteed promotion to Serie A in 2015, alongside Ponte Preta, Vasco, and Avaí. In the elite, Joinville could not repeat the performance and finished the 2015 Campeonato Brasileiro in last place, being relegated. Still, the 2014 campaign is still remembered as the one with the club's greatest national achievement.
