1. FC Kaiserslautern

1. FC Kaiserslautern is one of the most romantic and historic clubs in German football, famous for its almost impossible conquest of the Bundesliga in 1998 as a newly promoted team. The club carries the name of its greatest idol, Fritz Walter, in the stadium where it plays — a tribute to the world champion of 1954. Despite difficult periods in the lower divisions, Kaiserslautern has a history that inspires German football.

History

Founded in 1900, Kaiserslautern was one of the greatest German clubs in the 1950s and 1990s. The most iconic achievement came in 1998, when the club, newly promoted from the second division, won the Bundesliga — the only newly promoted club to win the title in the competition's history. Previously, the club had won the Bundesliga in 1991 and 1994. Coach Otto Rehhagel and Brazilian stars Cuca and Mazinho are part of the club's history. After years in the lower divisions, Kaiserslautern returned to the Bundesliga in 2024.
