Kaizer Chiefs is the most popular club in South Africa and one of the most followed in the African continent, with an estimated fan base of over 15 million people. Founded in 1970 by Kaizer Motaung in Johannesburg, the club was created during apartheid as a form of pride and resistance for South Africa's Black population. The FNB Stadium, South Africa's largest stadium and venue for the 2010 World Cup final, is the home of Chiefs.

History

Kaizer Chiefs won multiple titles in the Premier Soccer League and the South African League throughout its history. In 2020, the club surprisingly reached the final of the CAF Champions League, the best result in its continental history. The club was a pioneer in South African professional football, being fundamental to the sport's development during and after apartheid. The rivalry with Orlando Pirates forms the 'Soweto Derby', one of African football's greatest classics.
