History

Unión Deportiva Las Palmas was founded on August 22, 1949, in the capital of the Canary Islands. The club was a regular presence in the Spanish Primera División in the 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s, achieving its best result by finishing third in the 1968-69 season. The Gran Canaria Stadium, with a capacity of around 32,000 fans, has been the club's modern home since 2003. After a long period in the lower divisions of Spanish football, the club achieved promotion to La Liga in 2023 and surprised everyone by securing survival at the elite level. The club developed players who marked Spanish and South American football history, such as Juan Carlos Valerón, one of the greatest midfielders in Spain's history.
