US Lecce

US Lecce

US Lecce is the main football club of the city of Lecce, in the Apulia region, in southern Italy. It is known for being one of the clubs with the most promotions to Serie A in the history of Italian football, alternating between the top division and Serie B over the decades.

History

Founded in 1908, US Lecce established itself as the main representative of football in the Apulia region. The club has never won a major national title, but built its own identity through successive promotions and relegations between Serie A and Serie B, becoming a symbol of resilience for its fans. During the 1980s and 1990s, Lecce lived a period of consolidation in Italian elite football, competing in Serie A intermittently and developing important players for national football. The club played its home matches at Stadio Via del Mare, the stage for memorable campaigns against major Italian teams. In the 2010s and 2020s, Lecce continued to alternate divisions, returning to Serie A in seasons such as 2019-20 and again in 2021-22, consolidating itself afterwards among the competitive clubs of the first division of Italian football, always with fervent support from its fans in Salento.
