The Leicester City of 2015-16 won the Premier League for the first time in the club's history, one of the biggest surprises in sports, with betting houses paying 5000 to 1 at the beginning of the season. The team was managed by Italian Claudio Ranieri.

History

Leicester City was founded in 1884, under the name Leicester Fosse, and spent most of its history between the first and second divisions of English football, without ever winning the national championship before 2016. In the 2014-15 season, the club escaped relegation with a late-season surge. In July 2015, Italian manager Claudio Ranieri was hired, and the team started playing in quick counter-attacks, with Jamie Vardy, Riyad Mahrez and N'Golo Kanté as standouts. Vardy scored in 11 consecutive Premier League matches, a competition record, and finished the season with 24 goals. The title was confirmed on May 2, 2016, when Tottenham drew 2-2 with Chelsea. Leicester closed the championship with 81 points, 10 ahead of Arsenal, and Mahrez was named Player of the Year by the players' association.
