History
Leônico was founded on April 3, 1940, in Salvador, and became based in Simões Filho, in the metropolitan region of the Bahian capital. Over the decades, it became one of the traditional clubs in football of Bahia outside the axis of the two great rivals of Salvador. The greatest achievement in the club's history is the Bahian Championship of 1966, at a time when the state competition was dominated by Bahia and Vitória. After the title, Leônico came back to fight for the trophy and was runner-up of the state championship in 1974 and 1984. In addition to the state title, the club has five titles of the Incentive Tournament and three of the Beginning Tournament, competitions that were part of the calendar of football in Bahia. With the youth academy as a focus, Leônico continues to be linked to the history of the Bahian Championship and the state access divisions.
