History
Levante Unión Deportiva was founded in 1909 in the city of Valencia, becoming over the decades one of the most beloved clubs among Valencia fans who do not identify with the local giants. The club carries the nickname 'Els Granotes' (The Toads) and its garnet and blue colors are easily recognizable in Spanish football. Levante's history is marked by promotions and relegations between the Spanish Primera and Segunda División. After decades alternating divisions, the club experienced its most glorious period in the 2010s, when it stabilized in the elite of Spanish football for several consecutive years. The 2011-12 season represented the peak of the club in the modern era: Levante finished sixth in La Liga, securing an unprecedented place in the group stage of the UEFA Europa League. The campaign surprised European football and put the Valencian club on the continental map. Estadio Ciutat de Valencia, the club's home, is a compact stadium with intense atmosphere on match days. The rivalry with Valencia CF and Villarreal is an important part of the club's identity, representing the pride of a supporter who chooses his own path within Valencian football.
