History

Levski was founded in 1914 in Sofia by students and adopted the name of Vasil Levski, a hero of Bulgarian independence. Blue and white came to identify one of the country's greatest teams. Throughout the 20th century, the club accumulated titles from the Bulgarian Championship and established itself as one of Sofia's two major clubs, alongside CSKA. The confrontation between the two is known as the Eternal Classic of Bulgarian football. In the 2000s, Levski experienced a phase of European prominence. In the 2006-07 season, it competed in the group stage of the Champions League, in the same group as Barcelona, Chelsea and Werder Bremen. The club has 26 national titles, the most recent won in 2000, 2001, 2002, 2006, 2007 and 2009.
