History

Lierse Sportkring was founded in March 1906 in Lier, in the province of Antwerp. Throughout the twentieth century, it became one of the traditional clubs of Belgian football, with Herman Vanderpoortenstadion as its home. The club won the Belgian Championship on four occasions: 1931-32, 1941-42, 1959-60 and 1996-97. In the Belgian Cup, it won the competition in 1969 and in 1999. Financial problems led Lierse to bankruptcy, and the club was dissolved on May 9, 2018. The name and stadium were then used by its successor, Lierse Kempenzonen.
