History

Liverpool Football Club was founded in 1892 and plays its home matches at Anfield. Under Bob Paisley, manager between 1974 and 1983, the club experienced one of the most victorious periods in its history. On May 10, 1978, at Wembley Stadium, Liverpool defeated Club Brugge 1-0, with a goal from Kenny Dalglish, and won the European Cup for the second consecutive year. Dalglish had arrived in 1977 to replace Kevin Keegan. In the 1977-78 season, the team finished as English runners-up, behind Nottingham Forest, which also defeated Liverpool in the League Cup final that year, after a replay. In 1978-79, Liverpool became English champions with 68 points and conceded only 16 goals in 42 matches, a remarkable defensive record in English football. In the 1978-79 European Cup, however, they were eliminated in the first round by Nottingham Forest.
