Liverpool squad from 1983-84, English champions, League Cup and European Cup winners in Joe Fagan's first season as manager.

History

In 1983, Joe Fagan took over Liverpool in place of Bob Paisley, who had left after a series of national and European titles. The team had Kenny Dalglish, Ian Rush, Graeme Souness and Alan Hansen, plus goalkeeper Bruce Grobbelaar. In the 1983-84 season, Liverpool won the First Division with 80 points, three ahead of Southampton. They also won the League Cup, defeating Everton 1-0 in a replay, with a goal from Souness. On May 30, 1984, the team won the European Cup at the Olimpico Stadium in Rome, against Roma themselves, the home team. The match ended 1-1 and Liverpool won 4-2 on penalties. It was the club's fourth European Cup and the first treble by an English team.
