History

Vicenza was founded in 1902 and plays its matches at the Stadio Romeo Menti, named in honor of the Grande Torino player who played for the club and died in the Superga tragedy in 1949. For decades, the club was associated with the sponsorship of the textile company Lanerossi. In the 1977-78 season, the team finished as runners-up in Serie A, behind Juventus, with Paolo Rossi as the league's top scorer with 24 goals. A few years later, Roberto Baggio began his professional career at the club, between 1982 and 1985. In the 1990s, Vicenza won the Coppa Italia in 1996-97 and competed in the European Super Cup in 1997-98, in which they reached the semi-finals and were eliminated by Chelsea, after winning the first match 1-0 at home.
