History

Founded on June 9, 1914, Madureira Esporte Clube emerged in the heart of Rio's suburbs, in a neighborhood that would forever be linked to samba and Rio de Janeiro's popular culture. In its early decades, the club competed for prominence with the state's major teams, winning the Rio de Janeiro State Championship in 1933 and 1938 and establishing itself as a reference in suburban football. These were glorious years that placed Madureira among the main forces of Fluminense football. Throughout the 20th century, the club maintained a presence in the first division of the Rio de Janeiro State Championship, developing players who later shone at other Brazilian clubs. Conselheiro Galvão Stadium, popularly known as Conselheirão, is the heart of the club and stage of its centennial history.
