Maguary Esporte Clube
Maguary Esporte Clube is a football club from Bonito, in the agreste region of Pernambuco, founded on May 1, 1970. Reactivated in 2021, it returned to compete in national competitions and gained prominence in 2026, with a victory in its Copa do Brasil debut and participation in Série D.
History
Maguary was founded on May 1, 1970, in Bonito (PE). Its main title is the Second Division of the Pernambuco State Championship in 1977, conquered by tiebreaker, with 14 points. The club is remembered as the first champion of the state Série A2. After years away from the professional scene, Maguary was reactivated in 2021, when two businessmen, Ytalo Pontes and Carlos Maurício, invested approximately R$ 750 thousand to pay the club's affiliation fees to the Pernambuco Football Federation and the CBF. The return brought quick results. In 2026, Maguary debuted in the Copa do Brasil in a historic match in Bonito, defeated Laguna (RN) and advanced to face Fortaleza in the next phase. That same year, it also joined the 96 clubs of the Série D of the Brazilian Championship. It is important not to confuse the Pernambuco club with Sport Club Maguary, from Fortaleza (CE), founded in 1924, which is another entity.
