History

Founded in 1878 as Newton Heath, the club adopted the name Manchester United in 1902. In 1958, the Munich air disaster claimed the lives of promising young players, but the club was reborn under Matt Busby to win the European Cup in 1968. The greatest era of the club came with Sir Alex Ferguson, who commanded United from 1986 to 2013, winning 13 Premier League titles and two Champions League titles. The 1999 treble, with the Champions League, League, and FA Cup, remains the greatest achievement in English football.
