Maracanã Sports Club
Maracanã Sports Club is an association from Maracanaú, a metropolitan area of Fortaleza, which has become a regular force in Ceará football over the last two decades. It is known for its blue and white striped jersey and for its parrot-shaped mascot.
History
Founded on January 31, 2005 by then-mayor of Maracanaú, Roberto Pessoa, the club was born with the goal of projecting the municipality onto the Ceará football scene. In its very first year of existence, it competed in the Campeonato Cearense and finished in fourth place in its division. In 2007, the club was runner-up in the third division of the state championship and secured promotion to the second division. Five years later, in 2012, it became champion of the second division of the Campeonato Cearense, guaranteeing for the first time a spot in the elite of the state's football. In recent years, Maracanã has established itself as a sort of "third force" in Ceará football, finishing in third place in the Campeonato Cearense in 2024 and again in 2025, behind only the major clubs of Fortaleza.
