Matão Athletic Association
Matão Athletic Association is a football club from the city of Matão, in the interior of São Paulo. A traditional competitor in the lower divisions of the Campeonato Paulista.
History
Founded in 1938 in the city of Matão, in the interior of São Paulo state, Matonense became one of the main representatives of football from the interior of São Paulo throughout its history. The club built its tradition competing in regional and state competitions, alternating appearances between Series A2 and A3 of the Campeonato Paulista. Over the decades, Matonense developed players for São Paulo football and maintained a strong connection with the local community, becoming a sporting symbol of the region known for sugarcane and coffee production. The club historically played its matches at Estádio José Ferreira Dutra, popularly known as Bezerrão, a venue for traditional matches in the interior of São Paulo.
