Sociedade Esportiva Matsubara is a club from Cambará, in northern Paraná, founded in 1974 by Japanese-Brazilian businessman Sueo Matsubara. It became nationally known in the 1990s, when it reached third place in the Serie C of the Brazilian Championship.

History

Matsubara was founded on December 18, 1974 by Sueo Matsubara, a descendant of Japanese immigrants, to fill the void left by Cambaraense, a local club that had been Paraná state vice-champion in 1953. In a short time the team established itself as one of the representatives of the interior of northern Paraná. In 1976, just two years after its founding, the club was vice-champion of the Paraná State Championship, the best result in its history in the state competition. In 1989 it won the Professional Football Integration Tournament. On the national stage, the highlight came in 1992, when Matsubara finished the Brazilian Championship Serie C in third place. In 1995 the club temporarily moved its headquarters to Londrina, but returned to Cambará shortly after. The nickname Japonesinho refers to the founder's origins and the club's identity, which became one of the most singular stories in Paraná football.
