Associazione Calcio Monza
AC Monza is an Italian football club from Lombardy with more than 110 years of history. Acquired by Silvio Berlusconi in 2018, the club reached Serie A for the first time in its history in 2022, experiencing one of the most beautiful rise stories in European football.
History
Founded in 1912 in the city of Monza, on the outskirts of Milan, Associazione Calcio Monza spent most of its existence in the lower divisions of Italian football. Despite being located in an economically strong region of Lombardy, the club had never reached the elite of national football in over a century of existence. The great turning point came in 2018, when former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi — the same man who built AC Milan's dynasty in the 1980s and 1990s — and his partner Adriano Galliani acquired control of the club. From then on, Monza underwent a revolution with investments, signings, and structural professionalization. In 2022, after decades of failed attempts, Monza achieved its unprecedented promotion to Italian Serie A, fulfilling a historic dream for the city and its fans. The celebration marked a unique moment in Italian football, celebrated throughout Lombardy. Silvio Berlusconi passed away in June 2023, but managed to see the project materialize. The club played two seasons in Serie A before returning to Serie B, but remains a symbol of one of the most beautiful rise stories in recent European football.
