History
Founded in 1938 in the parish of Moreira de Cónegos, municipality of Guimarães, Moreirense Football Club spent most of its history competing in the lower divisions of Portuguese football, until establishing itself as a regular member of the First League from the 2000s onwards. The club became known for its balanced management and for developing players who later stood out in larger teams. The highlight of Moreirense's history occurred in the 2016-17 season, when the club won the League Cup (also called Allianz Cup), the greatest title in its trajectory, surpassing Vitória de Setúbal in the final. The conquest guaranteed the club an unprecedented place in European competitions, marking one of the most celebrated moments in Moreirense's history. Since then, Moreirense has continued as a stable competitor in Portuguese football, regularly competing in the First League and maintaining the Comendador Joaquim de Almeida Freitas Stadium as its home, a symbol of the identity of the Minho club.
