Motherwell FC
Scottish club founded in 1886 in the city of Motherwell, in the North Lanarkshire region. It is one of the traditional members of Scottish professional football, with four national titles won throughout its history.
History
Motherwell Football Club was born on May 17, 1886, from the merger of local clubs Glencairn FC and Alpha FC. It has played its matches at Fir Park since 1896, a stadium built on land belonging to Lord Hamilton of Dalzell, whose racing colors (claret and amber) were adopted by the club. Motherwell's main national title came in the 1931-32 season, when the club became Scottish championship champions. In the following decades, the club won the Scottish League Cup in 1950-51 and the Scottish Cup in 1951-52, beating Dundee 4-0 before over 136,000 fans at Hampden Park. In 1990-91, Motherwell lifted the Scottish Cup again, defeating Dundee United 4-3 in a final considered one of the most exciting in the competition's history, ending a 39-year drought without major titles.
