Moto Club

Moto Club is one of the most traditional clubs in Maranhão and a symbol of northeastern Brazilian football. Founded in 1942 in São Luís, it is one of the biggest winners of the Maranhão Championship and historic rival of Sampaio Corrêa in the so-called Clássico Rei.

History

Founded in 1942 in São Luís, Moto Club quickly became one of the main forces in Maranhão football. The club competed in several editions of the Brazilian Championship in the lower divisions, being one of the most frequent representatives of Maranhão in national football. Its main rival is Sampaio Corrêa, with whom it contests the Clássico Rei of Maranhão. The clash between the two teams is the most important in the state and mobilizes crowds in the Maranhão capital at each encounter. The Nhozinho Santos Stadium, the club's home, is the stage for great emotions in state classics. Moto Club has a passionate fan base, popularly known as 'papãozeiros', that follows the club throughout Brazil in disputes of national divisions.
