MSV Duisburg
German club from Duisburg, in the Ruhr region, founded in 1902 as Meidericher Spielverein. It was runner-up in the first edition of the Bundesliga, in 1963-64.
History
The club was founded in 1902 in the Meiderich district of Duisburg under the name Meidericher Spielverein, and adopted its current name, MSV Duisburg, in 1967. The blue and white striped shirts earned the team the nickname Zebras. Meidericher SV was one of the participants in the first edition of the Bundesliga, in 1963-64, and finished the season in second place, behind 1. FC Köln. This result remains the best campaign in the club's history in German top flight. MSV Duisburg played in three DFB-Pokal finals, all of which were lost: in 1966 against Bayern Munich (4-2), in 1975 against Eintracht Frankfurt (1-0), and in 2011 against Schalke 04 (5-0). Since then, the club has alternated between the lower divisions of German football and maintains the Wedaustadion, inaugurated in 1921, as its home.
