History

The Nacional Atlético Clube was founded in 1919 in the city of São Paulo and has its historic headquarters in the Barra Funda region, west side of the capital. The Nicolau Alayon stadium, inaugurated in the twentieth century, is one of the city's most traditional fields. From the 1940s to the 1970s, the club participated regularly in the São Paulo Championship, facing the major teams of the capital in matches played at the Alayon itself or in larger stadiums. The team became known for its resilience and role as a developer of athletes. With increasing professionalization and the financial difficulties typical of small clubs in the capital, Nacional began to compete in the lower divisions of São Paulo football, maintaining the youth academy as its main activity. The Nicolau Alayon stadium continued to be used by other clubs as an alternative home, which helped preserve Nacional's relevance in the São Paulo football scene.
