Club Nacional de Football is one of the oldest and most traditional clubs in South American football, founded in 1899 in Montevideo. With three world titles and three Copa Libertadores titles, Nacional is one of the most successful clubs in the history of continental football.
History
Founded in 1899, Uruguay's Nacional won three Copa Libertadores titles (1971, 1980, and 1988) and three FIFA Club World Cup titles (1971, 1980, and 1988), becoming one of the most decorated clubs in South America. The club was Uruguayan champion on numerous occasions and produced great talents for world football. Its rivalry with Peñarol, known as the 'Clásico del Fútbol Uruguayo', is one of the most intense and traditional in the world.
