Nacional Futebol Clube

Nacional Futebol Clube

Nacional Futebol Clube is one of the oldest clubs in Brazil, founded in 1895 in the city of São Paulo by Italian immigrants. A pioneer in the history of São Paulo football, the club dominated the first state championships and helped popularize the sport in the country.

History

Founded on August 27, 1895, Nacional Futebol Clube de São Paulo predates many of the great Brazilian clubs and was one of the protagonists of the embryonic phase of national football. The team won the São Paulo Championship consecutively in the early years of the twentieth century, establishing itself as the most powerful club in the state during that period. The club played a decisive role in the organization of São Paulo football, actively participating in the founding of the São Paulo Association of Athletic Sports in 1901 and helping to structure the first official competitions. Its teams counted on the stars of the era who shaped the style of play that would be exported throughout Brazil. Throughout the twentieth century, Nacional faced the common hardships of pioneering clubs: competition from major clubs that grew with professional football, gradual loss of players and financial resources. The club moved to the lower divisions of São Paulo football, but maintained its structure and historical pride. Currently it competes in the amateur and youth divisions of São Paulo football, preserving its identity as a historical heritage of Brazilian football. The remaining fanbase celebrates its early twentieth-century titles with pride and nostalgia.
