History

The New England Revolution was one of the ten founding clubs of the MLS and competed in the league's inaugural season in 1996. Since 2002, it has played its home games at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, shared with the American football team New England Patriots. The club reached five MLS Cup finals in 2002, 2005, 2006, 2007, and 2014, but lost all of them, which became known as the runner-up curse. The opponents were LA Galaxy (2002, 2005, and 2014) and Houston Dynamo (2006 and 2007). The main trophies came in other competitions: the 2007 U.S. Open Cup and the 2008 North American SuperLiga. In 2021, the team had a historic campaign, with a record number of points in the MLS (73), and won the Supporters' Shield, the trophy for the best regular season performance.
