History

Club Deportivo O'Higgins was founded in 1955 in Rancagua, a city in central Chile. The name honors Bernardo O'Higgins, one of the main figures of Chilean independence. The club plays its home games at Estadio El Teniente, a stadium named after the copper mine in the region. For decades, O'Higgins was a club with modest campaigns in the Chilean First Division. Its greatest moment came in the 2013 Apertura tournament, when the team won the national title for the first time in its history. The conquest secured the club's qualification for the Copa Libertadores and put Rancagua on the map of South American football. O'Higgins remains one of the main forces in Chilean football outside of Santiago.
