Traditional London-based club, West Ham is known for developing great names in English football and for its passionate fanbase in East London.

History

Founded in 1895 as Thames Ironworks, the club was created by workers from a naval shipyard, which originated its nickname of The Hammers, in reference to the hammers used in the naval industry. West Ham played an important role in the history of the English national team, with players such as Bobby Moore, Geoff Hurst and Martin Peters, all World Cup champions in 1966 and developed through the club's youth academy. Over the decades, the club won three editions of the FA Cup and a European Cup Winners' Cup in 1965, and is recognized for its technical style of play known as the West Ham way. In 2023, the club won the Conference League, its first European title in almost 60 years, under the command of coach David Moyes.
