Palestra Italia of Curitiba
Palestra Italia was a club from Curitiba, three-time Paraná State Championship winner in 1924, 1926, and 1932. In 1971, it merged with Britânia and Ferroviário to form Colorado Esporte Clube, one of the predecessors of Paraná Clube.
History
Palestra Italia was founded in Curitiba in the early 1920s. English Wikipedia records the date as January 7, 1921, while RSSSF Brasil points to 1920. The club was runner-up in the Paraná State Championship in 1921 and won the state title in 1924, 1926, and 1932, establishing itself among the leading forces in Curitiba football in the competition's early decades. In 1971, Palestra Italia ended its independent trajectory by merging with Britânia and Ferroviário. The merger created Colorado Esporte Clube, founded on June 29 of that year. In 1989, Colorado merged with Esporte Clube Pinheiros to give rise to Paraná Clube, which maintains Palestra Italia in the lineage of one of the main clubs in the capital of Paraná.
